Is kimchi healthy? Benefits and limits
· Updated · 5 min read
Short answer: Kimchi can be part of a varied diet because it is made from vegetables and may contain live cultures when it is fermented and has not been heat-treated. That does not make every kimchi product a guaranteed probiotic, a treatment or the right choice for every person.
What changes the answer?
Ingredients, fermentation, processing, storage and serving size all matter. Kimchi can also be high in sodium, and spicy or fermented foods may not suit every diner. Check the product or dish information and seek qualified medical advice for a health condition.
Kimchi on EMC Kitchen’s menu
The current menu names kimchi in dishes including Korean Ramen, Korean Bibimbap, Kimchi Fried Rice and Korean Gimbap Sushi. A menu name does not establish live-culture content or a health benefit, so this page makes no medical claim about those dishes.
